Welcome to Corcoran Guitars.

Thank you for visiting my site. It is a pleasure showing you my custom acoustic guitars. As a luthier, I craft all of my guitars entirely by hand in my 400 square foot shop in Gilroy, California. I have a fully equipped shop that enables me to procure my own lumber in slab form, resaw, sand and dry it when necessary. I have created all of my own jigs, fixtures, molds, side benders, motorized bowl sanders, go bars decks, well you get the picture.

I enjoy talking guitars with customers and shop tours are always welcome. Feel free to let me know if you are interested is a personal tour.

Here is a little about my design philosophy.

I have chosen a cantilevered neck joint that is found on many jazz guitars and mandolins. The reason is two fold: one, I like the way it doesn't inhibit the movement of the top and two, it is a very easy neck angle to adjust as the guitar changes over time. Click HERE for a more thorough explination of this neck design.

I designed my headstock to have a maximum width of 3" so I can use 3" thick Mahogany without having to glue on wings to make the headstock wider or waste valuable wider stock. This sleek headstock design also removes some excess weight from the guitars and Mini Gotoh 510 tuners work very well with the smaller proportions. This elegant design also keeps the strings from rubbing on adjacent tuner posts, eliminating the possibility of buzz.

I don't use any plastic on my guitars as it will deteriorate over time. I like as much wood as possible. Conversely binding, nuts, saddles, and bridge pins are all natural materials.

I try where possible to use woods harvested from responsible sources or reclaimed woods. Sinker Redwood, Brazilian stumpwood, 100 year old Redwood from wine barrels and other reclaimed woods always get preference in my shop. I have the ability to resaw, sand and dry my own hardwood lumber to take advantage of some wonderful old material.

Because of the proven track record and easy reparability of nitroceleous lacquer, I have made it my standard finish. Addam Stark from Santa Cruz, California professionally applies finish to all of my guitars.

I build each guitar as if I am going to buy it for myself. This is the only way I know of keeping myself honest and not allowing guitars of sub par quality to be made available for sale. You will find the quality, tone and playability of my instruments to be very high.

Thanks for looking around the site.
